mama we made it!!!

Mama We Made it!!! I just wanted to put you in the know! This is about your grandchildren... They have brought the family together, they are smart and remind us about how we used to be. The love flows and ohh mama.. the love... it flows and it flows in abundance. Did I mention that the love flows? The oldest of your grandchildren was asked a few questions yesterday. It was impromptu.. we asked her about the badges she wears on her school uniform. She answered the questions diligently... But mama get this.. The conversation turned from her uncles and aunts asking her questions to her moderating the discussion. Mama her transition from person getting asked questions to person asking questions was well executed.. Flawless! She kept us intrigued (even your 40 year old). Mama the girl is in grade 7. BUT IT IS NOT JUST HER!! Sorry mama for shouting.. but your grand children impress everyone.. I am grateful for you, and I know you are smiling. I just wanted to say thank you! P.S Your husband is cool too... the standard you set is evident! Also I just wanted to really tell you I saw this really cool plant vase that will let you play mp3s from this thing called an Iphone... But we will talk about that another timee

Good blog idea gone bad... (new york is killng me)

Yeah so the last post didn't quite come out right... (one day ill go back and edit it properly)

I think the underlying message was that, I have seen it, and got into it, not from just an outsiders point of view, but really hung out with Industry people.. (I have sat next to label heads, and shared peanuts with em, watching the yankees play-> yeah that heavy)..

SO... Gill Scott Heron, the guy that wrote/did "the revolution will not be televised" did this on his new album...

It's called "New York Is Killing Me"... Understand I love the place but i miss my peeps

listen to it.. (and replace the whole jackson Tennesse thing With Harare ZImababwe, and that's my Song....)

living off borrowed time

I get inspired at the oddest times, and often enough by the oddest people...

I haven't felt like writing for a while.. Mostly because my previous source of Inspiration is no longer that.. (a source of inspiration).

A few nights ago, I hung out with a friend, an absolutely amazing person....

(If this was a movie... This is where you would get a flashback and go Into a little bit of the protagonists psyche and hopefully get to know him a little better)

Younger me says:

I love New York City*, mostly because my parents lived here as students back in the 70's and I grew up hearing stories about NY. The places and people! I have always wanted to live here (to this day, I'd rather have a pair of Ewing's over Jordan's)!!!!

Apart from the Rents. I linked myself to NY through the music.... Queens Bridge, Marcy, Bed Stuy, Jamaica & The list of places streets, projects and intersections that I had heard of, referenced videoed and criminalized through the music! It's almost impossible to quantify it all. But WE ALL KNEW THEM (who hasn't heard of Marcy or Queens Bridge?

It sounds silly, but through my moms and my pops stories (growing up) add in the music, movies, and pop culture I have always wanted to be here... NYC

I have a good friend who was a journo/intern/freelancer for a couple of hip hop/entertainment magazines... The source, Vibe, The New Yorker, Time Out, etc.. & works for a label nowadays... Hanging out is cool, cus she gets me In to album listening, back stage at shows. And just having drinks and rubbing shoulders w industry people---> kinda cool getting to be able to eat from the same table as people I grew up watching!

She tells me about the In's and Outs of the industry (journalism/entertainment)... Some of the stories are funny, some of it is sad, most of it is out there already, but it's cool hearing the stories first hand from people that where actually there..

As much as I like, hearing about these things... It was never stuff,I considered awe Inspiring, until a few nights ago..

I was looking at a Cuban mini statue (in her apartment). Afro woman, really big ass. Big breasts small waist. Perky nipples... Then my friend was telling me about her experience with black Cubans...

The story she told me is the inspiration of this post! She told me about how she met Assata Shakur (Google her), the secrecy and controversy...

She was there with Common when he wrote "A song about Assata"... *

I asked her why she was writing about other things and not about this particular thing, or the other awesome stuff that she has witnessed.. her response to me..

"I tell my stories, but only to my close friends... when its all said and done, I would rather be like Gloria Vanderbilt and tell my story when I am in my 80's"

What gets me, is that I get to hear her stories about the golden era first hand, and I have been introduced to a few people from that era through her... its fucking beeaaautiful! 7

The real lesson here is that, well, I love New York... and I am getting to experience things beyond what I could possibly have imagined possible (movie stuff), when I got on that plane to move here...

Fate/life is funny....

I feel like it's borrowed time though, My heart is still In Africa.. Yes Meeting Dame Dash, Erykah Badu, DJ Evil Dee, Jean Grae, Questlove (actually I am not even gona go there, I its been an experience, and when I say meet, I mean get introduced)

Honestly Id rather, be at Jubilee day, Saints Vs PE, or be there to help out my Dad if something ever happened to him...

For some reason, I feel like that will be my freedom...

Hmmm....

So.... I'm listening to Q-Tips "Barely in Love"

As an artist you can, look around paint a picture and see how it works out....

Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't...Everyday I feel like I grab my idealistic points of views and express them! I put them out there, express them and just pray the world doesn't come crashing down on me..

I think that it is a part of what life is all about... (I'd rather be the person that tried and lived his/her life than someone that played it safe...)

You try you fail, you give it you're all.. it takes guts to put yourself out there (considering the consequences --> I know this because I am a real man! #nogames ).. End of the day, It feels good to do so, do you!

Have a vision pursue it! And see if it works out..

That's what makes us men!

You win you loose!

Then continue on to the regularly scheduled programing ehh pinky?

Don't fall In Love...

I work with people... I work In Sales...

I have to build relationships, with strangers.... I have to be personable enough to get a time constrained CEO (or vp) to talk about his fishing trip, or Daughters Birthday Party... While i Handle what he needs to get done.

I'm good, I'm really good at it.

The things I do, for work are crazy.... I have to be creative, I present proposals, sometimes they get approved... often they don't. I love it though...

commercial break

Commercial break…

Apart from the woman I love… A few friends and family.. Most of what my life encompasses feels like a commercial break.

It’s a loooooooong commercial break… It pays the bills, keeps me socially relevant.
I like the English accented Gecko, The house made of Bud Lights (ahhhh, just the commercial! not the beer!), The commercial rivalry (this company vs. that)..
It’s not why we tune in tho, I tune in for the main show! The commercials are a distraction, sometimes we don’t remember the show, but remember the commercials….

It’s supposed to be the story of a life! My Movie, My Life, not one dictated by a commercial interest!
The main love interest (who will inevitably play hard to get, even though she should know I love her-à but I digress), Naturally there should be a few things that get me down.. an enemy here or there, getting overcharged by an insurance company that endorses a gecko, missing work cus I was hanging out at a house built out of bud lights… Things I will overcome (hopefully), .. Might be a feel good movie, maybe not.! Either way its my story! The Commercials keep on getting in the way though… (The cash for gold, the debt relief commercials).

I think my parents spent a lot of money on the production of this flick, the best producers, locations in (Africa/Europe/US) Granted It’s not a big budget flick (by American standards), It’s supposed to be a well produced/directed flick (think slum dog millionaire- well maybe not but u get what I’m saying).

So far the protagonist (me) has been surrounded by a wealth of talent and opportunity, and has failed to capitalize… The protagonist gets lost at times, discouraged and has made some extremly bad decisions….

It’s one of those stories, where you sort of know the protagonist will pull through and win in the end. (Although he doesn’t show it), the people that know him know that sooner or later he will win! Because he feels he is here to win!

YOU want him to win!!

He is you're guy, the underdog!

The commercial's are about to end...

let's all watch this story...

who knows how it will end.

The sea is radioactive..

"The Sea Is Radio Active..."

A line from a Gorillaz song, from the album "Plastic Beach"..

Great album I recommend YOU buy it!

The concept of the album, is that we live in a fake plastic world, capitalism, consumerism.. The kind of place where captain planet is loosing... (yeah.. you get it!)
I love the album, because it made me step outside of my comfort zone. It's a fusion of rock, hip hop, dance and just, well.. just stuff!

moving on...

I know a girl... I used to date her, broke up with her... Somewhere along the line, I really fell in love with her. I think we broke up just as things where getting deep.. but remained good friends after.

I met another woman last year, she has 3 kids, an amazing artist.. Luckily I got to be one of the first people to listen to her new album "New Amerykah Part Two: return of the Ankh"... I always thought Erykah Badu was an amazing artist, that dictated her own path.. Shoot, most of the people I Listen to are real artists!

The only reason why I am writing about these particular artists today is..

1. It's Thursday
2. I'm a little intoxicated
3. you're dumb ass is still reading this so you have nothing better to do
4. Ms Badu started a discussion about #groupthink (group thinking) on twitter, and how there is very little individualism left in the world.
5. YOU are still reading this, and are evidently lacking a meaningful life

I always considered myself as one of those people that just did for himself (at least as far as art, music etc goes)... On my train ride home, the Gorrilaz song "Superfast Jellyfish" came on and immediately afterwards my ipod decided to play Erykah's "Fall In Love (Your Funeral)"..

You can call it what you will... I saw it as a moment of clarity, Decided to bbm the woman i love a message and just straight say "I love you.." The #groupthink would say it was probably a bad idea to do so.. Shoot I probably think so too.. One of those rare moments in life, where u are like fuck what is considerd right or wrong.

But it just feels good, doing you're own thing, dictating your own rules, making you're own moves!

The imagery on our Plastic Beach is amazing...

I was never really a part of it but, now i have decided to totally dissasociate myself from this mess!

For the Cause? Or Jus because?

St Patty’s

A really good day, lots of green, lots of drinking. I usually stay away from the days’s, activities, because St Pat Is not my Patron Saint, and the logic that it’s a day where one can take a break from lent activities does not do it for me*… I was tempted to log into G- Chat (Gave it up for lent), Been tempted to log into Facebook (Decided not to log into my FB profile till after lent) I miss my people**…

Anyway… the budget is restrictive, the weather is good, (the girls are probably already drunk), but most importantly I haven’t been out in a good minute… By out I mean to MY type of scene, great music, no lines, good people (beauty of mid week parties). I am going to go out by myself, cus when I go out with other people, I usually end up not actually being with them (unless if it’s a girl… naturally).. à*** you’re boy starts dancing etc

It has been documented that APT (is Tunga’s Spot ..yes , no really yes, I insist use google, it’s allowedà*** by google I mean my previous posts) !!! I loved it, I have had 3 Birthday parties there… The reason why I love it, is cus like minded people get to meet, mostly the artistic type. The people that are slightly unorthodox, people that make their own lane.. (met the beatminerz, talib kweli, jean grae, q tip, quest love, and pharoah monche out there - and just regular good people)
I say this cus its not the hairstyles or dressing, it’s the conversations you have out there.. Anyway I always felt at home at apt. The Dj became a mate and now thru twitter I realize he is actually on some big time celeb stuff..

But… we are justifying tonight’s excursion because

1. Today is St Patrick’s Day - The Patron Saint of Nigeria --> *** #fact
2. Apt got closed 3 months ago, the dj’s that held it down are doing it again, new venue. Richmedina is the king of afro pop, in the US that means #fela (no really Google, is STILL you’re friend check it out)
3. I Can
4. Why live in New York If you Cant enjoy the Patron Saint of Nigeria?
5. Weather is good for now.. Gona get cold on Friday again!

I am doing this because, I have a cause…
All my hiphop heads, suck my shamrock! Come to NY and we can have some fun, that’s my cause!

1

* That ‘s why I don’t give up crucial activities such as drinking in the first place.
** If you where wondering, yes the alcohol is more important than you!
*** I really hate you twitter for making me wana put arrows in non twitter related stuff…

Suspended in time...

Hmmm

If I made me a deal with some Iranians, got me some plutonium got a Delorean, fixed my flux capacitor, travelled back in time, kidnapped my dad, brought him back to the future (Get it? Get it?). The conversation I would like to have with him would be this... Do you think the summer of ‘69 is better than the summer of 09??

My Dad was born in 1938; I was born in 82… My dad if today was 1969; would have been 30... I am 26… I think we would have been able to have a sensible conversation about which year is better.

First of all, at this point in the year 1969, The United Kingdom had just severed diplomatic ties with Rhodesia (currently Zimbabwe) , my dad having grown up in a segregated Rhodesia, I am pretty sure would be happy to hear Robert Mugabe is currently the President of Zimbabwe^… I am pretty sure he would also be disappointed to hear that Robert Mugabe is STILL the President of Zimbabwe.

I think, my dad was probably a lot funkier than me^... the fro^ (currently trying to grow my own*) and the music^, dress sense was DEFINATLEY a lot cooler^. I can Imagine the distressed expression on his face after explaining to him what Autotune is^ (disclaimer: my dad is still alive and he still probably doesn’t know or care what Autotune is*, but I would like to imagine he was a lot cooler back in 69). I am sure he would be happy to hear Jay-Z is trying to kill Autotune* (then proceed to ask me why we would rely on a guy called J-Z^)

‘69 was the year of Woodstock, my Dad was Still in Zimbabwe at the time, but from what I Understand, Woodstock was all about expression and linking with like-minded people... Woodstock at the time was apparently about the Underground Movement. I think the ol man and me would have disagreed on the relevance of underground music, at the time back In Rhodesia, my dad was and still is a big Elvis fan… His current explanation has something to do with Elvis being big in Rhodesia with the white people AND the black people. I guess that’s pretty relevant… mentioning the Black Eyed Peas and Eminem would be silly as a rebuttal. I suspect my nonexistant son (if I have anything to do with it) will probably still be bumping Jimi Hendrix, sly and the family stone, The Who, etc, while current “pop” acts will be forgotten^.

The Beatles gave their last performance, in the summer of 69^, and Michael Jackson died in 09*.

My dad and I are both not Native New Yorkers, but both lived\live here*^… But as far as integration goes, in the summer of 09, I can say that my Mayor is Jewish, Governor is Black and so is my President!***********************

At this point in the conversation, my dad would call me a liar!!!!!!!!!!!**

I admit that walking on the moon is cool^^… I am pretty sure he would be disappointed that no one has been there since^, (considering a 99c calculator bought today could have powered the Apollo mission^).

The iconic (fluke) Woodstock festival came to be ... which apparently inspired a generation^.

In this era, we don’t have a Woodstock, or burning guitars^, but we have a Facebook*, Myspace, YouTube*, Twitter* and the Bloggers***. The generation is alive, we are not relying on a few icons (I – the blogger was even the Time man of the year at one point)...

We are more connected. We don’t need a Woodstock!

I think that if we had to ask my (currently non-existent) son in which era he would have rather lived in I am sure he would chosen this one… We don’t have a Woodstock, but more and more people have blog’s (none as good as this one!) but still we are here, more international, universal. More connected than ever before.

Where I will concede victory for ‘69 is the financial situation… Bank’s keep on telling us they have insufficient funds when we try and withdraw money from our accounts^^^

Stillll…. I would rather be here (09) than there (69)…

(Obama will fix the insufficient fund problem)

I wonder what my non-existent Kids would think if they ever saw this, in 2039^

* Point to me
^ Point to Dad

I'm sorry

My sweetest Berry, I'm sorry…

I really am, you are my love… my passion…

Without you, I now see that my life is meaningless, I am an empty vessel without you… I was stuck to you, just like glue... I never thought I would have ever (and ever ever) let you go…

I remember first hearing about you, I was a little pessimistic at first, and I was thinking this is just too good to be true... I heard about your problems… constant non-responsiveness, switching off. I remained faithful to you, you kept on trying to better yourself, upgrading yourself (it's a shame i would only hear about these things through third parties, and not officially)

I remember being excited waiting for you to get delivered to me (much to the chagrin of my friends). I will never forget that day; I kept on looking outside to see if you had arrived... When I finally heard the bell ring and welcomed you, that was the end of it all for me...

I remember getting aquatinted… playing with you… exploring you… discovering you…
Learning you… introducing you to my social networks…

I admit there where others, but none have ever been able to compare… I am with the others now… but you are still on my mind; I would give them all up just to get you back.

I went through you to access my bank accounts, news, and email, to be honest I even screened my friends based on if they where cool with you or not!!!

We did shady things together, fun things, when I was lost you showed me the way. I miss you my friend, companion, confidant; you kept me in touch with the world…, which in turn helped me, connect to myself!

You are my first thought when I wake up. Work, life, boring events all of it was only bearable because I had you by my hip, I should have paid more attention to you… been more vigilant… How I let, you get involved with this guy Mohammed I don’t know. I woke up today looked for you, got confused then I remembered I lost you...

Now if only this Mohammed mafacka could just return you… Before I get paid and just upgrade to a frigging Blackberry Tour… (Or pay the damn $50 for an insurance replacement)...

Stupid Phone!!!!!!!

First of all… I would like to re-introduce* you to my new (old) blog***...

?

No, it is just me… The people’s blogger… Do not be worried my people, I got you!

I know that I have only just put up one post. Rest assured When I am in Los Angeles this time next week, wearing my BLUE* and Red bandana chilling in Compton, I will. CONSIDER ending gang violence.

Truth is I just wana hit Compton, and JOG at more than 100miles an hour, just to show them that NY still runs this country.

Damn I love my city!!

Movies tell me that L.A is filled with fake people… Kinda like the dude that sold out in the Matrix…sold out to think he was eating real chicken…
Seriously, a town filled with fake humongous boobies, asses and faces, that look amazing, why even go???

Honest truth is, I fear the flying… Not the actual flying... but the processs. Waiting delays… security…. Etc … Throw in the fact that I cannot sleep or read while in transit.

My other fear is that I will be mobbed by all the celebs that are going to bombard me at the airport**, and I will not be able to do all the things I wana do… Like just get away from the city (New York).

I have not left New York in a while… I mean I have been out of the country a few times***.

I am excited, I hope they have internet out there in California****, gna go to Sacramento, San Francisco, Oakland and Las Vegas. Hopefully I will see my first international game when the Sacramento Kings play against a foreign team***.

The reason why I am still single…

Long day after work, got online, seen one of my boys into old school beats*.

I know it’s sad, but ill look up sumn on wiki, then see how many links I can click on to get to another topic. Say I could google “Charlie Chaplin wiki”. Get onto wiki and see how I can bring that around to Pi (3.14). So as I read about Chaplin, I could see a link that I think could get me closer to my goal (pi)** etc, etc, etc…

I hit up my boy, so we started a new game, but it’s played on youtube (and IM)
First time we did it we started at Kenny Rogers’s song the gambler, object was to see who would get to A Tribe Called Quests song "Scenario" first.

I went thru the version of Kenny Rodgers “gambler” got to his song “Aint No Sunshine” , Stings "Aint no sunshine", Bill Withers "Aint No Sunshine", DMX "Aint No Sunshine"… was trying to work to A Tribe Called Quest.

I lost! Words of wisdom I got from my dude…

E-Jey says (9:51 PM):
Those booty shakers will have hip-hop in there somewhere
E-Jey says (9:52 PM):
from hip hop just find an artist that will link you to the right place
E-Jey says (9:52 PM):
I started from missy
E-Jey says (9:53 PM):
Then Busta, then got you all in check
E-Jey says (9:54 PM):
then tribe
E-Jey says (9:54 PM):
and it was there”

Moral of the story is, there is no moral…but its fun! ****

Any1 wana challenge me??

* I don’t really like the guy, but he is one of my best friends cus our older brothers where best friends, and so we both grew up on that old school hip hop

Deep Thought

A close friend asked me to reconsider what I am doing with my life, who I talk to, how I spend my time, and really take the time and reevaluate my life…(apparently I keep on complaining)

I thought id take that concept a step further, in high school I was inspired by a concept from the Society of Jesus, I learnt in high school ( I went to a Jesuit Mission School*).. Where at the end of each night Jesuit Priests, reflect on the day that has just passed.
A personal reflection, where one can consider the thoughts that go through ones head. In interactions and situations faced throughout the day. How one thinks in certain situations and how one may have reacted to whatever stimuli they may have encountered throughout the day. The mistakes one has made, the things one did right, etc, and how one may use this knowledge in the days to come… To help make one a better person! It is in essence similar to how Muslims "strive for perfection"

I am not sure if I am doing it quite right! At the end of the night in reflection, here is a typical sample of the things that go through my head, during the day…

“I bought a big box of chocolates, a week or two ago, for some reason there are no Twix candy bars, left!”… (Later in the day)… “Why is my apartment filled with Twix wrappers???”

“Dammit another salad is tormenting me”... (a little later)…”Why does my fridge smell??”

“Maybe I should have taken a shower last week”… (A little later)…. “Why am I still single?”

Maybe one day I will figure this whole life thing out...**

A star is born

I think its time, to take my villainy to the next level.

Somehow sneaking more than 11 items into express lanes at the supermarket isn’t doing it for me anymore. As devious as that is, I don’t think, it will get me remembered.

After some thought. I have come up with a 2-point action plan*:

1. Fire Tendai as my hype man, engineer, and consultant.
2. Lie

Steven Colbert coined the term “truthiness”; History is what we make it (depending on who won, or which “truth” appeals more to you/us)

If it’s on Wikipedia then it must be true…

By the time u finish reading this (if u can see this entry), according to Wikipedia.
Eating Tuna will be a sign of worshiping the Big Tuna... the hole in Pandaves door will not be really there… Oprah eats Tuna everyday… New York state law will allow the stealing of beer glasses… Okra will be illegal in 52 states, Singapore, and Hatfield!
Hillary stopped eating Tuna (thus the loss)... the tomatonation will be a recognized state… And in a statement by the surgeon general the nutritional value of Sierra Nevada, will be acknowledged and recommended that the American work force have one or two before work, and have one at half hour intervals every Tu's day (Thursday, Monday, wedensday, Friday), and at 15 minutes intervals for those that have to work weekends!**

* Anything past 3 will confuse my readers***

Ohh Pinky

Pinky: Hey, here’s a quote for you

"there;s one good thing about music: when it hits, you feel no pain" - bob marley

Tunga: i disagree

Pinky: i do

Tunga: music for me, can be harmful

Pinky: really?

Tunga: yeah

cus it speaks to u

no?

Pinky: it does... but i find it doesn't make me hurt. it echoes my own pain but doesn't create more

Tunga: i guess

but it can also amplify ur emotions

Pinky: true

Tunga: cherish the day

wont go astray

breathe again, breathe again....

Pinky: my shoulder hurts

Tunga: what song is that?

u listen to weird music!
